Copycat recipe

Serves 2

  • 1 large brown onion, cut into 1 cm rings
  • ¾ cup plain flour, ¼ cup rice flour, 1 tsp baking powder, ½ tsp salt and ½ tsp onion powder
  • ¾ cup cold soda water
  1. Separate the rings and dust them in a little plain flour.
  2. Whisk the flours, baking powder, salt, onion powder and soda water into a smooth batter.
  3. Dip the rings in the batter and fry at 180°C for 2–3 minutes until golden.
  4. Drain and salt them.
