Hungry Jack’s Whopper & Beef Burgers (2026): Full Menu, Prices, Calories & Guide
Whopper® & Beef
The Whopper has been on Hungry Jack’s menus for more than 40 years. Hungry Jack’s itself calls it “an Aussie legend”. The beef range now goes well beyond the classic Whopper: Big Jack, Cowboy Whoppers, thick Angus Grill Masters, and cheeseburgers from about $3.

Why Hungry Jack’s beef burgers taste different
Two things set them apart:
1. 100% Aussie beef. Hungry Jack’s says its patties have no additives, preservatives, colourings or fillers: “the only thing we add is flame grilling.”
2. Flame grilling. Every patty is cooked over a flame instead of on a flat grill. That’s where the smoky, BBQ taste comes from, and it’s the main difference you’ll notice compared with McDonald’s.
The Grill Masters Angus range uses a thicker Angus patty, weighing a third of a pound (about 150 g) before grilling. Hungry Jack’s doesn’t publish weights for its regular Whopper or cheeseburger patties.

Big Jack vs Whopper
The Big Jack is Hungry Jack’s answer to the Big Mac. It has two beef patties, cheese, special sauce, lettuce, pickles and onion on a sesame bun. It’s back on the menu for a limited time.
| Big Jack | Whopper | |
|---|---|---|
| Patties | 2 smaller | 1 larger |
| Sauce | Special sauce | Mayo and tomato sauce |
| Calories | 558 | 582 |
| Price | ~$13.10 | ~$12.35 |
If you like Big Macs, try the Big Jack. If you want the smoky flame-grilled taste with fresh salad, stick with the Whopper.
Plant-based and veggie Whoppers
The meat-free Whoppers sit in the Veggie Range:
| Burger | Calories |
|---|---|
| Plant Based Whopper | 554 |
| Plant Based Whopper Cheese | 629 |
| Plant Based Angry Whopper | 701 |
| Veggie Whopper Cheese | 544 |
The Plant Based Whopper used to be called the Rebel Whopper.
Is it vegan? Not as served, because the mayo contains egg and the cheese versions contain dairy. Hungry Jack’s labels them “not suitable for vegans.”
Free birthday Whopper
Hungry Jack’s gives app users a free Whopper on their birthday.
- Download the Hungry Jack’s app and add your date of birth to your profile.
- On your birthday, find the offer in the app’s rewards.
- Redeem it at the cashier. OzBargain users report it costs $0 at the counter, while redeeming it in the app can add a $1 minimum spend.
Is Hungry Jack’s beef halal?
Not at every store. Hungry Jack’s nutrition guide includes a column flagging menu items that are halal at selected stores only.
- Halal-certified restaurants display their halal certificate in-store.
- Bacon burgers (Bacon Deluxe, Ultimate Double Whopper, Angus Bacon & Cheese) contain pork, so they’re never halal.
- If halal matters to you, call your local store or look for the certificate before ordering.
Hungry Jack’s beef patty ingredients
According to Hungry Jack’s, the beef patty is:
- 100% Australian beef
- free of additives, preservatives, colourings and fillers
- flame-grilled in the restaurant
The full allergen list is on Hungry Jack’s nutrition page. The beef patty itself has very few allergens. Most come from the bun (gluten and sesame), the mayo (egg) and the cheese (milk).
Limited-time Whoppers from the past
Hungry Jack’s regularly brings out limited-edition Whoppers, and people still search for the old ones:
- Tropical Whopper, with pineapple
- Smokehouse Whopper
- Bistro Whopper
- Bacon Gravy Whopper
- Rebel Whopper, now called the Plant Based Whopper
The Cowboy Whopper is the current limited-edition burger, alongside the Big Jack range. Limited burgers usually last a few weeks to a few months.
Does Hungry Jack’s do “Whopper Wednesday”?
No. Whopper Wednesday is a Burger King promotion in the US. In Australia, the cheap Whoppers come through the Hungry Jack’s app deals, Shake & Win, and the vouchers.
Is Hungry Jack’s the same as Burger King?
Yes. Hungry Jack’s is Burger King’s Australian franchise. When the company opened in Australia in 1971, a small Adelaide business already owned the name “Burger King”, so the Australian stores were named Hungry Jack’s instead. The Whopper is the same signature burger, but the recipes, sizes and menus are Australian.

Final thoughts
If you’ve never been to Hungry Jack’s, start with a plain Whopper. It’s the burger the whole menu is built around, and the flame-grilled taste is what you’re there for.
For value, the app deals beat everything else. A Whopper Jr Cheese with medium chips for $5.75 is about as cheap as a decent beef burger gets in Australia. For a proper feed, the Ultimate Double Whopper or a Grill Masters Angus gives you more beef than almost anything at Maccas.
The limited-time burgers like the Big Jack and Cowboy Whopper come and go, so try them while they’re around.
